“I didn’t stay there,” Gonzalez told the Orange County Register. “I had my reasons.”
While Gonzalez didn’t specify his reasons, it’s safe to assume they were political. The five-time All-Star grew up in Mexico and has been a member of Mexico’s national baseball team. Given his ties to the country, he likely doesn’t appreciate Donald Trump’s politics, which prominently feature a proposed wall separating Mexico from the United States.

“They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists,” Trump has said of Mexican immigrants. “And some, I assume, are good people.”
For this weekend’s stay at the Windy City, the Dodgers had non-political reasons to avoid the Trump hotel. According to the Register, the hotel required a non-refundable deposit from the team in order to stay. Since they weren’t sure if they were going to advance to play Chicago, the franchise made other arraignments.
